d79572f73e Add unit_test test option in test configs
This change allows a test (native, java, rust or python) to be included
in host-unit-tests suite when test option `unit_test` is set to true.

cf371cc1f7 Replace android.WriteFile rule with android.WriteFileRule
The android.WriteFile rule takes careful escaping to produce the
right contents. Wrap it in an android.WriteFileRule that handles
the escaping.

62a0cfd054 Annotate dependency tags for dependencies of installed files
Soong currently assumes that installed files should depend on
installed files of all transitive dependencies, which results
in extra installed file dependencies through genrules, static
libs, etc.

Annotate dependency tags for dependencies for which the
installed files are necessary such as shared libraries
and JNI libraries.

This avoids extra installed files, and is also a first step
towards genrules using their own copy of tools instead of
the installed copy.

Prepare for using Config when adding singletons by passing

This will enable a followup change to store SingletonMakeVarsProviders
registered on the Context in the Config, which is necessary to run
multiple tests in parallel without data races.

3df4e6364b rust_grpcio well known types support, default deps
The usage of the well known type Empty requires a hack in the module
above the grpc implementation, this is now the generated stem_mod.rs

This also adds additional implicit dependencies that are required by
the grpc protobuf generated code. This includes the addition of a
'header_libs' property for library dependencies which export include
paths required by protos.

We also now include both the protos and the grpcio in the library
variant via the mod_stem.rs.

25b0780f37 Merge "Define product_available property" 2020-11-09 00:40:50 +00:00
Justin Yun
63e9ec70bb Define product_available property
To make a module available to product variants, it must define
`product_available: true`. `vendor_available: true` will not create
product variants any more.
However, in this CL, we don't change the behavior of
`vendor_available` property. It still creates both variants. After we
update all Android.bp files that need to provide product variants
with `product_available: true`, we may upload the remaining patches.

81235ffb96 Set stem and suffix for vndk prebuilt libraries
This is to pass check_elf_files when vendor modules link against vndk
prebuilts. Because of the ".vendor" suffix, the intermediate path
becomes "libfoo.vendor.so" and it makes check_elf_files fail, when stem
and suffix is not specified.

Also, by adding such fields, devices with empty BOARD_VNDK_VERSION can
experience a build break due to collision between VNDK snapshot and VNDK
source module. To completely prevent such collision, all vndk snapshots
become explicitly uninstallable, and they are disabled if
BOARD_VNDK_VERSION is empty.

Prepare for making the relationship between an llndk_library stubs

d207cbed65 Revert "Add -fdebug-compilation-dir option"
Revert submission 1461902-debug-compilation-dir

Reason for revert: "-Xclang" isn't being uniformly respected everywhere. For example, in ".S" compilations, when I pass `-Xclang -fdebug-compilation-dir=.", the assembler seems to be ignoring it and then inserting the `pwd` into the command, however when I pass "-fdebug-compilation-dir=.", it strips out the path to the current working directory.
This indicates that we need to update re-client's input processor so that we can pass -fdebug-compilation-dir=. without "-Xclang" and then remove `PWD` setting.
I'll followup with a patch to add -fdebug-compilation-dir.

578ba0021f Add -fdebug-compilation-dir option
The main use of this flag is to be to make both the debug info
and the build command line be independent of the compilation dir.
See: https://reviews.llvm.org/D63387 & https://blog.llvm.org/2019/11/deterministic-builds-with-clang-and-lld.html

Removed -fdebug-prefix-map and PWD variable being set in the compile
command line - these were workarounds we originally did to ensure that
the compile output is independent of the working directory and are no
longer needed now that we have -fdebug-compilation-dir.

Test: Ran "m
out/target/product/crosshatch/obj/SHARED_LIBRARIES/libexif.vendor_intermediates/same_vndk_variants.timestamp"
which fails on an RBE hardened stack without this change and passes with
this change.

Export information about static libraries, shared libraries and
exported flags through Providers instead of accessing the module
directly. Much more is left to be converted, but this significantly
simplifies the dependencies on libraries with stubs by making it easy
for a module to masquerade as another by simply exporting the
providers from the other module. Instead of depending on all the
versions of a library and then picking which one to use later, it
can depend only on the implementation variant and then select the
right SharedLibraryInfo from the variant.

d48fe734cd Fix prebuilt library stubs
There were multiple stacked issues with prebuilt library stubs that
cancelled eachother out. Prebuilts were never considered to be
DirectlyInAnyApex by the AndroidMk logic to handle stubs libraries
because it looked it up in the global list of modules in apexes
using the name with the "prebuilt_" prefix. Fixing that to use
ctx.BaseModuleName() exposed a second issue, that stubs variants
for prebuilt libraries were never created, so there was no latest
version to expose to Make.

Making the *prebuiltLibraryLinker type work with all of the
methods that handle stubs should really be done with an interface
and methods implemented on *libraryDecorator, but that would
also cause other types like that embed libraryDecorator to
participate in stubs that may trigger more issues. I'd like
to replace those methods anyways, so just manually handle
*prebuiltLibraryLinker for now.

618b671bf4 Retain all stubs versions in the snapshot.
This is a quick fix to avoid build failures due to prebuilts lacking
stubs versions that the sources have, which causes dependencies on
older version stubs fail on master-art-host where the sources of e.g.
Bionic are no longer available.

More work is required to make the version handling of stubs DTRT - a
TODO comment outlines it.

b024957791 Propagate all sanitizer flags in SDK snapshots.
liblog snapshot needs to sanitizer.address=false to avoid cycle in asan
builds. Adding that separately in library_sdk_member.go would start to
feel like whack-a-mole, so the snapshot generation is instead extended
to handle nested property structs.

This uses the BpPropertySet.AddProperty extension in
https://r.android.com/1423510, and common value optimisation now
recurses into non-anonymous structs, instead of comparing them as a
whole.

1613e5541f HostCross is an attribute of a Target, not OsType
A host target is considered as being cross-compiled when the target
can't run natively on the build machine. For example, linux_glibc/x86_64
is a non-cross target on a standard x86/Linux machine, but is a cross
host on Mac. Previously, whether cross or not was a static attribute of
an OsType. For example, Windows was always considered as cross host,
while linux_bionic was not. This becomes a problem when we support more
host targets like linux_bionic/arm64 which should be cross-host on
standard x86/Linux machines.

This change removes HostCross from the OsClass type and instead adds a
property HostCross to the Target type. When a target is being added, it
is initialized to true when the target can't run natively on the current
build machine.

To build with PGO instrumentation, the link step also needs
-fprofile-generate flag. Omitting this will result in a linker error.
This surfaces if module A depends on module B but PGO is used only for
module B.

Previous uses of PGO were avoiding or working around the issue but to
accommadate recent changes, this CL propagates the PGO linker flag to
module A.

2f5f16d574 Tweak ThinLTO inling heuristics in absense of PGO profile
We previously disabled inlining and unrolling completely during ThinLTO
in absense of PGO profile. For global ThinLTO, we want to better balance
binary size and performance.

We evaluated a number of combination of heuristics with global ThinLTO
configuration:
                                binary size change
  no LTO baseline
  no inline, no unroll -0.54%
  no inline, unroll -0.50%
  import-instr-limit=5, unroll +0.02%
  import-instr-limit=10, unroll +0.13%

Loop unrolling does not contribute much to the binary size, therefore
it is re-enabled.

import-instr-limit=5 balances the binary size savings from ThinLTO and
size incrase due to additional optimisation.

1a2462717e Replace stringly-typed API levels.
Handling of API levels within Soong is currently fairly difficult
since it isn't always clear based on context what kind of API level a
given string represents, how much canonicalizing and error checking
the code receiving the string are expected to do, or how those errors
should be treated.

The API level struct does not export its raw data, so as to keep its
"constructor" private to the android package, and to prevent misuse of
the `number` field, which is only an implementation detail for preview
API levels. API levels can be parsed with either
`android.ApiLevelFromUser`, which returns any errors to the caller, or
`android.ApiLevelOrPanic`, which is used in the case where the input
is trusted and any errors in parsing should panic. Even within the
`android` package, these APIs should be preferred over direct
construction.

For cases where there are context specific parsing requirements, such
as handling the "minimum" alias in the cc module,
`nativeApiLevelFromUser` and `nativeApiLevelOrPanic` should be used
instead.

d1f898e70a Remove global state from version mutator
A per-context variable is used to store the list of modules that
contain stubs and their available versions. Stores the list of the
stubs versions on the implementation module, and then use the new
return values from AddVariationDependencies to expand dependencies
on implementation libraries to also depend on the stubs libraries.
Adds a new mutator pass to propagate list of stub versions to llndk
libraries.

Also creates an alias version variation called "latest" to allow
depending on the latest version without having to know what it is.

1a31f80b03 Add -D__ANDROID_NATIVE_BRIDGE__ to native_bridge targets
And remove dual meaning from arm_on_x86 target. It was set for x86
targets with arm support and for arm targets with x86 support - and that
2nd one was abused for native_bridge version of RenderScript.

It's much safer and cleaner to rely on __ANDROID_NATIVE_BRIDGE__ there
while leaving arm_on_x86 to mean "x86 binary built in the image with arm
support".

It's only used by bcc compiler which is in canadian-cross situation here:
it's pure x86-64 binary, but it needs to know about ALL supported
architectures on device because it needs to include appropriate codegen
module.

809d51866a Heed SkipInstall flag when adding install rules for vendor-snapshot.
The prebuilt-vs-source selection operates by setting SkipInstall on
either module. When the vendor-snapshot module visits all modules it
will visit both, and if it is a static library it will then add
duplicate install rules for both source and prebuilt unless it
looks at SkipInstall.

90dab3498d Use alias for test_per_src apex dependencies
AddFarVariationDependencies was broken, which allowed apex to add
dependencies on tests by requesting an empty test_per_src variation
even though some test dependencies did not have a test_per_src
variation. Add an alias from the pre-test_per_src variation
variant to the empty test_per_src variation, and drop the
test_per_src variation when requesting the depencency.

4afa2e2682 LinuxBionic supports arm64
LinuxBionic now supports arm64 architecture in addition to the existing
x86_64 arch. This is to make it possible to build host tools like adb,
fastboot, crosvm, etc. for Linux/ARM on regular Linux/x86 machines.

The arm64 target can be selected in various ways in Android.bp files:

   - target.host (because this is still considered as a host target)
   - target.linux (provided that the module is also enabled for host)
   - target.linux_bionic (use the OS name directly)
   - target.linux_bionic_arm64 (OS name + arch combo)
   - target.linux_arm64 (provided that the module is also for host)
   - target.not_windows
   - arch.arm64

The toolchain for the new target is almost the same as the toolchain
config for Android/ARM64. One notable difference is that the clang
triple is aarch64-linux instead of aarch64-linux-android, so that
__ANDROID__ is not defined for the new OS type.
